About a mile or so from where we live, in Starbeck, there's an outside gym in a park. Years ago when we lived in Starbeck the kids used to play on the gym equipment sometimes but apart from that we've never used it. I thought it'd make an interesting addition to my exercise experiments so this is what we've been doing for the past month on Friday mornings.
We put a bluetooth speaker in the middle so we can exercise to music. Then after a few stretches to warm up we pick a starting machine and work round all 10 in a circle spending a few minutes on each. Stopping for a drink of water when needed (it's been hot lately!). This usually takes 30 minutes so then we do another circuit to make it a full hour.
It's great to be exercising in the open air but it does make it weather dependant. It's been lovely weather recently but it'd be harder to motivate yourself in winter to face the elements.
It's nice and quiet when we go, just a few dog-walkers around to say good morning to. It's free to use and even though it's been there for years all the equipment is in great condition. There are instructions on each machine to show you what to do.
This has been one of my favourites so far. It's outside, costs nothing and you can choose a time to suit you to exercise. Having no instructor means you have to push yourself to keep going and if you're self concious about exercising in public then you might not be keen to try it but I loved being under the trees working out. We even saw the occasional squirrel coming to investigate what we were up to!
